Biography
Todd Schierling's career with the City of Surrey Fire Service began in 1996, where he currently holds the rank of Suppression Fire Captain. From 2006 to 2016, he served in leadership roles for IAFF Local 1271’s executive board and as a Board of Director for the Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Society. In 2016, he was elected to the executive board of the BC Professional Fire Fighters' Association and appointed to the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Board of Directors, becoming President in 2023 and again in 2025. He has also served as a Field Service Representative for the International Association of Fire Fighters since 2018.
His governance and advocacy roles expanded significantly in 2023, with his appointment as a Trustee on the BC Municipal Pension Plan Board of Trustees, a position on the Executive Council of the BC Federation of Labour, and as a fire fighter representative for the BC First Responders Mental Health Committee. In 2025, he has been nominated to the National Advisory Group for the Bill C-224 National Framework for Cancer Research in Fire Fighting.
Honors and Recognition
His dedication has been recognized with several awards throughout his career: the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013, the Surrey Leader: Community Leadership Award in 2019, the Local 1271 Axe Award in 2020, and the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025.
